about MT. WASHINGTON POTTERy
Beth Katz is the creative force behind Mt. Washington Pottery, a beautiful collection of functional and decorative ceramics. Beth and her team make all the work by hand and on the potter's wheel in her Los Angeles, California studio.
The 1970’s hippie enclave of Topanga Canyon in Southern California is where Beth grew up and began learning the art of pottery as a child. She worked with her father, helping him with his clothing design business. After many years, but first, a career as a makeup artist for advertising, and then as the creative director for a top women’s magazine, Beth returned to grad school to study spiritual psychology. Her studies in psychology led her to focus on pottery, turning her lifelong hobby into her life’s work.
The freedom of her childhood, the singular Southern California landscape, her experience in commercial design combined with the ethos of traditional Japanese and modern Scandinavian design culminate in the elegant simplicity that is Beth’s work.
